Statements to the prosecution completed: Arrest warrant sought for journalist Murat

Investigation ongoing in Istanbul regarding allegations of ‘laundering assets derived from crime’ has led to the arrest warrant being sought for journalist Murat Ağırel. In a recent court appearance, 17 individuals including Mr. Ağırel were brought before judges at around noon on October 16th.

The process began with taking statements from these seventeen people starting shortly after midday. Journalist Murat Ağırlı’s statement took one hour to complete and was recorded meticulously by the investigators present in court. Another individual, Emir Sarıgül, who had been issued a detention order earlier that day also attended voluntarily accompanied by his legal counsel.

Following these statements, prosecutors announced their decision on referrals made during this investigation process. The prosecutor’s office decided to seek arrest warrants for 15 individuals including Murat Ağırel and Aylin Kotil while requesting judicial supervision over two others who were deemed less likely to flee or cause harm in the interim period following their release.

Four people, among them journalist Mr. Ağırlı himself had already been taken into custody earlier on Friday, October 16th as part of preliminary measures ordered by prosecutors during this ongoing investigation process aimed at uncovering and addressing allegations pertaining to asset laundering derived from criminal activities.
